Lee Mulos
My love of Wesley Rankin stems from the knowledge of its influence on the lives of so many people of all ages through its many diverse programs. The success of those programs is due to the wonderful untiring dedication of the excellent staff. As I have said so often, I never go to Wesley Rankin but what I feel better when I leave than when I went. It is always uplifting being there.
Lee was born in Nebraska and graduated from the University of Nebraska. She moved to Dallas in 1956, right after she and her husband Jack were married. Lee taught school for 27 years in Nebraska, and was also an elementary principal, in Denver, Colorado, and in Dallas. Before retiring in 1990, she spent 13 years teaching third grade at George Peabody Elementary School in West Dallas. Peabody Elementary was 85% Hispanic, and Lee developed a real love for teaching Hispanic children and working with their families. Wesley Rankin provides an outlet for Lee to continue that love in her retirement. Lee learned about Wesley-Rankin from her friends, Richard and Carolyn Grissom, who were already volunteering at Wesley-Rankin. Lee currently chairs the Wesley-Rankin Bridge to College Scholarship Program.
Lee is a widow with two children, Karen Gunter, and Tom Mulos. Her daughter Karen has been a board member and a benefit co-chair, and her son, Tom also helps Wesley-Rankin when called upon. Lee and her grandson, Travis, are summer reading volunteers at Wesley-Rankin. Lee is a member at Walnut Hill United Methodist Church and an active UMW member. She is on the board of the Creative School at Walnut Hill UMC and the Walnut Hill Foundation. Lee was very active in the early years of the North Texas Nebraskans, a part of the Nebraska Alumni Association, and held offices in that organization. She loves to read and enjoys participating in the SMU Godbey series and enjoys studying the classics with the Athena Foundation.
