Children's Programs at Wesley-Rankin
Wesley-Rankin has responded to the needs of the children in our community by offering a variety of programs that help children and their families grow and learn in healthy ways. We want to instill in children at an early age that academic achievement is important and that we are here to support them if they encounter challenges. We seek to provide a safe and loving environment where all feel welcome and deeply valued.
Preschool
Wesley-Rankin teams with Mi Escuelita to provide a high quality preschool education for children age three to five years on Mondays through Fridays. The program serves 80 children and their families at no cost to the families. Participants are children from low-income families and children with disabilities. Programming is provided for parents about how to foster the social and educational building blocks that promote their children's healthy development. Parents are asked to volunteer to help with program activities and to become part of a team that seeks to enrich the community. For more information about the Preschool program call (214) 698-1512.

Elementary After-School Program
Our Elementary After-School Program serves children in grades 1 to 5 on Mondays through Thursdays from 3pm to 6pm. Children receive a hot meal and participate in a wide variety of spiritual, educational, and recreational activities. They are provided with extra reading and homework help. They learn important lessons about physical health through participation in our Smart Bodies program. We teach nutrition skills and the importance of exercise. We even offer the opportunity for them to learn more about food sources by tending their own garden. We provide students with opportunities to practice these skills and coach them about how to evaluate their progress in meeting personal health goals.
Once a month, parents and children are invited to join us for Family Fun Nights. In addition to a nutritious meal and community building activities, family members receive invitations to participate in other Wesley-Rankin activities like our educational classes for adults.
Through a partnership with the Cara Mia Theatre, children can participate in a 10-week program that includes activities like drama and dance. In addition to the creative experience of the performing arts, the activities are designed to foster history knowledge and reading and writing skills.
Currently, about 40 children participate in this program. The enrollment in our After-School program continues to grow . Parents frequent express gratitude for the positive changes they are observing in their children.
